FIFA Rosters is a website created originally for Career Mode players, but it now offers some really useful lists and tools for you to improve your FIFA 17 Ultimate Team experience. This service’s notoriety was built mainly over the one tool that indicates how well a player can play in another position different to his original position. If you wish to know all about FIFA Rosters, be sure to read our independent review, the only one you’ll find.
FIFA 17 Reviews is a new space that we’re proud to present in our website.
Although we do already undoubtedly provide the best FIFA Ultimate Team content around the internet, the truth is that part of the community will only reach out to the best gaming experience once they use some other tools as a complement to our website. Our main objective here is exactly to serve you, the community, and for that reason we’re starting these monthly reviews which will show you the newest products and services alongside unknown potential of the ones you already know.
Our team has been working daily for almost five years with subjects that are in some way related to this game. With the exception of databases, we’re the website players come across the most when they want to know something about FIFA. It’s about time we transmitted some of this accumulated knowledge to the community, analysing books, apps, websites and multiple services. All of that in order for your FIFA 17 game experience not to end here and be even more gratifying. We’ll here publish completely independent reviews, advising or admonishing determined products and services according to their profile. We don’t limit ourselves to just giving our opinion. We analyse everything and for everyone.[/vc_column][/vc_row]
The FIFA Rosters project was created in August, 2015, and has been living at moderate anonymity since then, as suggests the fact that it only just now joined the list of the one million most visited websites in the world. The website, available in English, focuses on ‘stat analysis for mislabeled players for Career Mode’.
However, the services offered by the website don’t end here. It offers several tools for you to expand your Ultimate Team experience, such as lists of players and card generators.
FIFA Rosters is worth basically its functionality that allows you to find out how well a player can adapt to a position that’s not his original position. The game’s database is integrated to the website so you can search for any player you want and immediately know his rating for each one of the fifteen positions.
You don’t realise how that can be useful? We’ll explain. Imagine you have a team based on the German league and you want a good CDM, but you don’t know if Renato Sanches will be good for the job since he is originally a CM. If FIFA Rosters didn’t exist, you’d have to buy him and test him out. In a few seconds you can see that he can actually play reasonably well not only on this position but also on any other position. Only except for the goalkeeper position.
But hold down the enthusiasm a bit. This tool is useful for career mode players but the way chemistry affects the players’ performance makes it misfit for Ultimate Team. You might as well forget the thought of having Renato play as a centre back, and buy an actual good centre back instead.
For career mode fans, you can even search the page for your favourite team and know everything there is to know about it.
Right now FIFA Rosters offers three other tools to help expand your Ultimate Team experience: a pack opening simulator, to help lower your unceasing curiosity without having to spend fortunes; a team card matchup creator, to promote your fictional derbies; a FUT card creator, where you can create your own personalised card.
Another great functionality in the website are the player lists. In the good old FUTHead style, for example, each list corresponds to a determined criteria. It goes from the simplest lists, such as legends or OTW, to the most elaborated ones such as the Florenzi Club, reserved to players whose basic attributes are 75 or higher.

CARD CREATOR
How about creating your own card for it to be your internet identification? You just need an image or a gif of yours, then you may set the stats and info you want on your card. FIFA Rosters’ card creating tool could do with some improvements, its biggest limitation is that you can only create FUT 16 or FUT 17 cards but, in a way, that’s no more than a detail for there are some other nice functionalities available: you can load existing cards, calculate stats according to all the attributes or switch between different types of cards. Try creating a card and uploading it to Gravatar so you can see it as your profile picture here on FIFAUTeam.
TEAM CARD MATCHUP CREATION
In England, the December City against Arsenal warms up already. You may also live by anticipation a big matchup that’s going to happen by giving it a poster of your own. Well, to be honest you don’t need to do almost anything. Just go to the FIFA Rosters Team Card Matchup tool, choose teams, card types and unavailable players and the website will do the rest. Before you can even pronounce Błaszczykowski right, you’ll have a beautiful match poster for yourself to use wherever you wish.
FIFA Rosters has a clean layout of easy, intuitive navigation. We appreciate a website with a minimalist aspect, the designer’s work in there was just wonderful. The colour choices are perfect, the images are appealing and the pages load fast. However, nothing’s entirely perfect. Some publicity banners are positioned over the content and the player pages could be more well organised.

LACK OF UPDATES
Don’t think FIFA Rosters doesn’t work with FIFA 17. On the contrary. You can access the game’s database and the new cards are available on most of their tools. The problem is that it’s common to find FIFA 16 data mixed up with FIFA 17 with there being no distinction whatsoever, which, as you can imagine, takes away all the credibility of the information. Try, for example, creating a team card matchup between Manchester United and Sporting CP. It will feature Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Slimani and João Mário, whilst that shouldn’t happen neither in FIFA 16, nor in FIFA 17. If you navigate through the player lists you’ll also notice there’s no frontier between one player and another. Several other content from the website lack frequent updates and, for a website older than a year, it’s time to drop the ‘Beta’ reference and create new usage and privacy politics.
POSITIONS IN ULTIMATE TEAM
The website’s strongest point is the possibility it gives us to know new positions where our players can play. However, that’s also FIFA Rosters’ negative point. Never is the user informed that these ratings are only valid for career mode. Someone with average Ultimate Team knowledge might figure that out for themselves, but the truth is the website induces the user into an error. Once FUT cards are used to identify the players, including IF cards, the creators of FIFA Rosters are misleading their followers. The subject isn’t exactly that simple, so there should be something to explain in detail what is it that these ratings refer to.
PACK OPENER
Since we hate these kind of programs, we might be suspect to classify this tool as a negative point in the website. Like you, we do love opening packs and it’s even better to do so not having to pay. The problem is that these pack openers have absolutely nothing to do with the real packs EA sell and they only demonstrate a deep knowledge of the game’s mechanics. Try opening a ‘real’ pack and then use this tool as comparison. Completely different, right? Just like in any other app of this kind, the absence of card weights makes opening one of these packs as reliable as throwing a deck of cards up and hoping they fall in order. As if that wasn’t enough, the packs’ content is wrong and there isn’t anything such as some sort of leaderboards to make us want to keep opening them.

Be sure to take also look at the specifics depending on what you want out of them, beyond the obvious points of Finishing, and Long Shots, and think about aspects like Ball Control and Short Passing if you prefer to play with two up top, or Heading and Strength if you like a big target man who's a threat in the air.
For other stats-based guides, it's worth taking a look at our list of the highest potential FIFA 19 wonderkids, plus we have pages on the best Goalkeepers, best Defenders, the best Midfielders and best Wingers in the game, too.

As we alluded to above, there are a few additional things to bear in mind when choosing your strikers and forwards in FIFA 19, with slightly different factors becoming more or less important depending on the mode and formation you're playing.
- For Career Mode, potential is important too - Some players have higher built-in potential for growth than others, and if you're planning on playing at least two seasons of Career Mode then it's going to have a major impact on your squad. It's also a great way to pick up a bargain, too, so if you're keen on finding some youngsters take the time to go over our detailed list of the best FIFA 19 potential wonderkids and young players, whcih includes some of the finest young strikers in the game. For Ultimate Team, remember you can use Chemistry Styles - Chemistry Styles, if you didn't know, add up to a whopping 90 points to your player's attributes, spread according to the Style you choose. You can read more on Chemistry in general in our guide to how FIFA Chemistry works, and likewise the best FIFA 19 Chemistry Styles in our detailed guide to those, too. Think about your style of play when looking at stats - We mentioned this briefly above, but certain strikers will of course work better in certain formations and styles. Strength, Heading, Ball Control and Short Passing suit target men, whilst Finishing is always useful, Long Shots suit CFs who work outside the box, and Acceleration and Sprint Speed do, of course, help you spread the pitch with pacey poachers sitting on the last man's shoulder.
Sometimes we include links to online retail stores. If you click on one and make a purchase we may receive a small commission. For more information, go here.

Bale, Lingard, Son and Zaha have all been patched – here's how they look now with the updated FIFA 19 player faces
It goes without saying that - although some are impressive - a lot of the FIFA 19 player faces could do with some work. It was much worse at the start of the game though, because since then EA Sports has updated a number of players in FIFA 19 to be more like the real person. Jesse Lingard and Wilfried Zaha are two examples of top flight players that really looked nothing like the player they were supposed to be based on.
Mine too please while I’m here thank you 😅 @EASPORTSFIFA https://t. co/b0Im81uWowAugust 14, 2018
That top-flight twosome covers a tiny part of the updated FIFA 19 player faces catalogue. In all 69 players have been updated so far, the most recent being Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund. (The England international also tops the FIFA 19 winter upgrades list.) Promoted sides Wolves, Cardiff and Fulham all get comprehensive makeovers as part of the EA’s Premier League license, too.
Below you’ll see the 12 best new FIFA 19 player faces, followed by a full list of all refreshed players. Should any further updates occur before season's end, we'll of course update this list once again.
Premier League fans love to hate the Palace man, or at least pretend to – I’d say more than 40% of teams I meet online have the silky-skilled Ivorian deployed up front. Whatever your feelings on the Eagles’ talisman, there can be no doubt over this new likeness. With hairstyle spot-on and neck tattoos updated, it’s one of the best FIFA player faces we have ever seen.
Hardly a drastic overhaul for the flying Welshman, but still a pleasing one – his facial hair has had a trim, his cheekbones have been accentuated, and the loose locks around that famous manbun made even messier. This is the sort of incremental update you’d hope all major players would have annually – start a game with Arsenal and check out Hector Bellerin to see why.
The Korean forward’s update is similar to Bale’s: a haircut and some work on his top lip bum-fluff, rather than a full overhaul. With Serge Aurier and Davison Sanchez added over the summer, the entire Spurs first-team squad now has realistic likenesses – and you can play at their new stadium before it’s even opened in real life, as explained in our FIFA 19 stadiums guide.
Zaha may split opinion among the global footballing fanbase, but he has a long way to go to catch the sport’s ultimate pantomime villain. EA’s new Costa likeness gives off the aura of a WWE heel, with his menacing stare and eight-days-unshaven facial foliage captured impeccably. Dab after scoring with this dude in Divisional Rivals to trigger peak FIFA rage.
Don’t be surprised if you come up against Odoi online this season. While he’s only scored 69 overall, a pace rating of 82 makes him tempting for teams who play three at the back, where his speed can cover for other deficiencies. I plan to experiment with him in my Premier League ‘fitness’ team for that very reason. Okay, that and a goatee realistic enough to stroke through the TV screen.
Fulham initially received more updated player faces than any other club: 13 in total, including the previously mentioned Odoi, and Steven Sessegnon, twin brother of 2017/18 hero Ryan Sessegnon. Which was especially curious as the latter didn't get a scanned face in the initial November update, despite being widely considered the West London side’s best player. However…
There he is! Curiously, Fulham fans were made to wait an extra couple of weeks for the more famous Sessegnon to receive an official likeness, but it finally dropped at November's end – as we reported at the time. He formed part of a second batch of Cottagers that also included Tim Ream, Cyrus Christie, and Aboubakar Kamara – who's since departed the club for a loan spell at Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor.
Sporting a haircut that you’d describe as ‘sharp’ in every possible sense, Etheridge instantly became one of FIFA 19’s best-looking goalkeepers – just be warned that his virtual abilities aren’t quite so flattering. Also new from Cardiff in the first update were Joe Bennett, Kadeem Harris, Sean Morrison, Josh Murphy, Callum Peterson, Joe Ralls, and Bobby Reid, with seven more players added a fortnight later.
Wolves’ summer signing showcases the power of the Premier League within FIFA. Throughout his five-year stint at Monaco – one of the world’s biggest clubs – fans clamoured for the Portuguese midfielder to be scanned, to no avail. Yet within four months of crossing the Channel to sign for Wolves his real face is in. Great news for West Midlanders, but you can see why Ligue 1 fans feel spurned.
Lingard’s lobbying of EA, which began following the release of the FIFA 18 World Cup faces update, finally had the desired effect. His new scan has a squarer jawline than last year’s, with more bouffant hair to match his real-life ‘do. United fans get two for the price of one here, with young striker Joshua Bohui also added for the first time.
It’s not the Frenchman’s robust defensive qualities which make him stand out among the 69 players below – but a human-beacon hairstyle visible from the Eiffel Tower. Kimpembe’s blonde barnet turns him into the leading light on any Ultimate Team roster, and he’s a solid foundation for your Ligue 1, or all-French, side.
The second November update placed a big emphasis on the Premier League, with promoted clubs having been scanned throughout the summer of 2018. But some European favourites nabbed new FIFA 19 player faces too. Inter forward Icardi's updated likeness delighted fans, as did those of Daniele Rugani (Juventus), Ever Banega (Sevilla) and Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid).
- Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid) Leon Balogun (Brighton & Hove Albion) Junior Fernandes (Brighton & Hove Albion) Mathias Normann (Brighton & Hove Albion) Joe Bennett (Cardiff City) Neil Etheridge (Cardiff City) Kadeem Harris (Cardiff City) Sean Morrison (Cardiff City) Josh Murphy (Cardiff City) Callum Paterson (Cardiff City) Joe Ralls (Cardiff City) Bobby Reid (Cardiff City) Daniel Arzani (Celtic) Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace) Floyd Ayite (Fulham) Marcus Bettinelli (Fulham) Joe Bryan (Fulham) Tom Cairney (Fulham) Ibrahima Cisse (Fulham) Fabricio (Fulham) Stefan Johansen (Fulham) Neeskens Kebano (Fulham) Maxime Le Marchand (Fulham) Kevin McDonald (Fulham) Dennis Odoi (Fulham) Jean Michael Seri (Fulham) Steven Sessegnon (Fulham) Joshua Bohui (Manchester United) Jesse Lingard (Manchester United) Morgan Sanson (Marseille) Danny Batth (Middlesbrough) Yoshinori Muto (Newcastle United) Presnel Kimpembe (Paris St Germain) Enzo Fernandez (Rayo Majadahonda) Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) Stefan Sturaro (Sporting Lisbon) Son Heung-Min (Tottenham Hotspur) Marc Navarro (Watford) Benny Ashley-Seal (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Willy Boly (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Leonardo Bonatini (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Conor Coady (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Ivan Cavaliero (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Diogo Jota (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Ruben Neves (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Matt Doherty (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Joao Moutinho (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Roman Saiss (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Helder Costa (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Morgan Gibbs-White (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Kortney Hause (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Neil Warnock (Cardiff City) Slavisa Jokanovic (free agent) Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid) Souleymane Bamba (Cardiff City) Greg Cunningham (Cardiff City) Bruno Ecuele Manga (Cardiff City) Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (Cardiff City) Alex Smithies (Cardiff City) Danny Ward (Cardiff City) Kenneth Zohore (Cardiff City) Cyrus Christie (Fulham) Aboubakar Kamara (Fulham) Tim Ream (Fulham) Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham) Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan) Daniele Rugani (Juventus) Ever Banega (Sevilla) Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund)

The world’s fastest man Usain Bolt will join the FIFA 19 roster in the future. That’s the latest word from EA Sports as Bolt is preparing to continue his transition from the track to the field. One club is already giving him an audition and if he continues to perform well, it could mean signing a deal. That could also give EA a good reason to add him to the roster along with FIFA 19’s top players.
Bolt is already a world-class Olympic athlete. He’s won nine Olympic gold medals over the span of his legendary track career. He also holds world records in a variety of events including the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 4×100 meter relays. However, he’s retired from that aspect of his sports career and has now moved on to football/soccer.
He trained with the Dortmund team in Germany but they chose not to add him to their roster. Bolt is now on loan for the Australian club Central Coast Mariners. While he’s working on improving his overall game, the world’s fastest man scored two goals in the team’s win several days ago against MacArthur South West United.
That's two goals tonight for @usainbolt!! What a moment in sport, don't think limits! #CCMFC 🎥 @FOXFOOTBALL pic. twitter. com/0NeIH9i49V
As Bolt continues his trial with the team, it could ultimately result in him getting signed by Central Coast. That would bring Usain Bolt into the FIFA 19 roster as a playable star in the game. Even if unsigned, he could also join the game as a free agent.
There is currently no official date for Usain Bolt’s FIFA 19 roster availability. However, EA Sports has confirmed that if signed, he will be part of the game in a future update. According to Goal’s report, an EA Sports source mentioned the particulars when speaking to Fox Sports Asia.
“If Usain is picked up by the Central Coast Mariners then he will automatically be included in the winter update or the next major update.”
The EA Sports source not only confirmed that he’ll be included should Central Coast sign him, but they also said he would “be the fastest player in the game.” That would put him above Premier League player Adama Traore who has a 96 Pace ranking him as fastest in the game. The speculation is Bolt’s Pace would be around 99 for that particular skill. That’s no surprise, but one has to wonder where his other skill ratings will be.
For now, gamers can pick up FIFA 19 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch and prepare themselves for the possible arrival of Usain Bolt.

He also holds world records in a variety of events including the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 4×100 meter relays. However, he’s retired from that aspect of his sports career and has now moved on to football/soccer.
FIFA 19: Absolutely everything about EA Sports’ new game – Career Mode, Ultimate Team, The Journey, PS4 news, demo and much more
Here, you’ll find out everything you need to know about the game – from the best player ratings to all of the trailers, not to mention an in-depth look at all of the new features.
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
Don’t forget, if you’re a Fortnite fan – check out everything in our complete Fortnite guide here.
Anyway, let’s kick off with that all-important question…
Have any new stadiums been added to the game?
FIFA 19 will feature the brand new White Hart Lane stadium, EA Sports has announced.
The deal means Spurs fans will be able to play at their brand-new stadium on both the FIFA 19 demo and the full FIFA 19 game.
The official statement on the club’s website reads: “Tottenham Hotspur has today announced Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA), creator of the EA SPORTS™ FIFA 19 computer game series, as the Club’s Official Video Game Partner.
“EA SPORTS™ previously enjoyed a successful partnership with the Club between 2012 and 2015.”

Will Ultimate Team cards look different?
Yes, FIFA fans may have just got their first look at this year’s Ultimate Team cards – after the design appears to have been leaked online.
The image shows Kylian Mbappe’s card from the upcoming game – complete with a few tweaks that give it a different feel from FIFA 18.
The big change here is the rating, which now in line with the surname, and no longer at the top left. It also features a black background to help it stand out.
Any other leagues?
Italian publication Gazzetta della Sport reported that FIFA 19 will also include the full rights to the Serie A and Coppa Italia.
You can read all about it here
Will it have cross-play?
In an interview with Eurogamer, FIFA’s creative director Matt Prior revealed cross-platform play – much like we’ve seen in Fortnite – was something EA Sports is looking into for their FIFA series.
“It’s something we often talk about,” he said.
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
“There are a lot of issues to work through with various first parties. But Fortnite does that now with PC to consoles.”
What are the biggest changes this year?
There are a host of new gameplay features and tweaks set to arrive to this year’s game.
Here are the most important.
If you tap Circle or B just as your foot hits the ball, you massively increase the chance of striking it into the top corner.
It’s all about timing, so get it wrong and you’ll be punished with a scuffed shot.
Game plans have been introduced this year – which are set up before a match.
Here, you can set what tactics your team has depending on certain situations – such as if they’re 1-0 up or losing a match.
Once you have made the plans, simply assign to a D-pad press and you’re good to go.
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
Unlike last year, when it was hard to see if a tactical option had been executed, there’s now a clear toggle for on-the-fly instructions.
You’re also now able to adjust your team’s width and depth, as well as instruct your full backs what kind of runs to make in attack or your centre back to cover certain areas of the pitch.
There’s greater control over your team’s defensive style, too – with new settings: “pressure after possession loss,” “constant pressure,” “drop back,” “balanced,” and “pressure on heavy touch.”
Revised mini-map
A simple but welcome change.
One team will now have triangle icons, the other will have circles – so it’s easier to see who’s who.
EA has got everything from the Champions League logo including the commentary team, Derek Rae and Lee Dixon.
It’ll also have its own mode and the ability to create custom tournaments. Amazing.
This was slightly overshadowed by the Champions League announcement, but yes the Europa League will also be in FIFA 19.
Expect the full broadcast package, too.
General gameplay
Passing has been re-worked to feel more natural, while a active touch system allows better first touches from different parts of the body.
It also opens up the possibility of a feint attack – where, as the ball approaches, you can shift your weight one way, before going the other.
Stepovers, too, are reportedly easier to pull off and look more convincing – making it harder for your opponent to defend against.
Finally, 50/50 battles over a loose ball will now take into account more variables than last year – such as reaction time.
Who’s going to be the cover star?
Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as the FIFA 19 cover star – alongside Neymar.
The 33-year-old was revealed as the front man on Twitter – rounding off an incredible season for the Real Madrid ace.
FIFA fans will be treated to a first look at this year’s game at EA Play on June 9, which takes place a day or two before E3 (You can read our full E3 guide here).
However, with Ronaldo rumoured to be moving to Juventus this could change. Read more here.
What players will be getting new faces this year?
You can read about what players will get new faces in this FIFA 19 piece here.
We know that EA has been bust head-scanning a number of teams, so many players should get far improved looks this year.
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
What players won’t be in this year’s game?
Due to retirement, injury or leagues, a number of top players won’t be in this year’s game.
The FIFA 19 demo is here – so what better time to familiarise yourself with the best players?
On close inspection of the beta version of the game, Reddit user Koondaleeni has listed out all the stars who now have five-star skills.
This list is by no means official, but the beta is certainly a good indication and is unlikely to change.
For reference, here are the players with five star skill moves in last year’s game.
- Cristiano Ronaldo Neymar Ricardo Quaresma Ángel Di María Paul Pogba Thiago Franck Ribéry Nani Riyad Mahrez Aiden McGeady Hatem Ben Arfa
When will we know how much clubs have to spend on Career Mode?
FIFA 19 isn’t even out yet but we’re already getting very familiar with the game.
Yet another leak has been doing the rounds online, this time relating to the hotly-anticipated Career Mode.
Budgets for all the clubs have been revealed. We pick out a handful here, but to see them all in more detail, visit Fifagamenews. com.
Not quite as much to play around with as Man United, but still huge with £176,002,000.
The London club has £79,681,000 to shop with this year.
Huge budget for Gooners fans – you’ll have £110,810,000 to splash on top players.
Cardiff City
Has the smallest budget in the Prem, with just £28,667,000.
Manchester United has a huge £148,897,584 to spend in last year’s game.
However, this year, the budget has risen to £195,362,000 – the highest budget in the game.
Liverpool had £66,882,196 in last year’s game, but will have a huge £94, 010,000 to play around with this season.
The West London had £82,197,496 but now have a massive £112,435,000.
What about away from the Prem, I hear you ask? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are some of the biggest clubs from other leagues.
Real Madrid
Los Blancos fans will have £109,1116,00 to splash on players this year – some way off Man United’s budget, but not bad.
The Catalan club is in second place with marginally less than Real Madrid – £106,000,000.
Atletico Madrid
Unsurprisingly, these guys are top of the pile by some margin, with £167,978,000.
In second place is Monaco with a hefty £44,000,000 – although we did expect more.
And in third it’s Lyon, with £32,049,000.
Fresh off the back of Cristiano Ronaldo joining the club, Juve has £83,758,000 to splurge.
Coming in second with a decent £40,663,000.
Just behind Napoli with £39,559,444.
Top of the pile with £112,672,000.
Borussia Dortmund
Coming in second with £63,672,000.
Narrowly missing out on second place with surprisingly low £55,007,000.
FIFA 19’s demo will reportedly land on September 13.
Gaming website TrueAchievements claim a source close to the game revealed the date – and also confirmed a section of The Journey will be available to preview.
Imagine loading up a game of Ultimate Team in FIFA 19 but instead of spending real money to get players you have to work for it?
Well, this could soon become a reality for FIFA fans around the world.
In 16 countries to be specific.
According to a report by Eurogamer, 15 gambling regulators from Europe and one from the US have together announced they will “address the risks created by the blurring of lines between gaming and gambling”.
Among those that have joined the investigation are the UK, Washington State, Spain, Ireland and France.
This comes just after Belgium started a criminal investigation into the use of loot boxes in FIFA 18 and FIFA 19.
This has put a huge amount of pressure on EA to comply with gambling regulations and could ultimately result in the removal of FIFA packs from their games entirely.
Our dreams may soon become a reality.
Here all of the countries that have joined forces to stop the might of loot boxes.
- Austria: Alfred Hacker, Director, Federal Ministry of Finance Czech Republic: Karel Blaha, Director of the State Oversight Over Gambling Department France: Charles Coppolani, Chair of the French Online Gaming Regulatory Authority Gibraltar: Andrew Lyman, Executive Director, Gambling Division, HM Government of Gibraltar Ireland: Brendan Mac Namara, Principal Officer, Gambling Policy Division, Department of Justice and Equality of Ireland Isle of Man: Steve Brennan, Chief Executive, Gambling Supervision Commission Jersey: Jason Lane, Chief Executive, Jersey Gambling Commission Latvia: Signe Birne, Director of Lotteries and Gambling Supervisory Inspection of Latvia Malta: Heathcliff Farrugia, Chief Executive Officer, Malta Gaming Authority The Netherlands: Jan Suyver, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Netherlands Gambling Authority Norway: Henrik Nordal, Director Deputy General, Norwegian Gaming Authority Poland: Paweł Gruza, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Finance Portugal: Teresa Monteiro, Vice-President of Turismo de Portugal, I. Who’s going to be the highest-rated player?
This is a tough one. The cover star is usually one of the best players and Ronaldo was the highest-rated player last year.
This year, though, we may see a number of top players with the same rating.
Who’s going to be the strongest player?
Adebayo Akinfenwa isn’t actually the strongest player in FIFA 18. Yes, you read that correctly.
The ‘Beast’ who currently plays for Wycombe Wanderers has a massive 98 score for strength in last year’s game.
However, there’s another player who trumps that feat – Seattle Sounders’ defender Roman Torres.
EA sneakily made the centre-back the strongest player on the game with a Hero Card after Panama qualified for this year’s World Cup.
You can read about more about the strongest players in FIFA 19 here.
What about gameplay – will this change?
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
We’re going to say no to this one. As EA Sports looks to build the game into an esport proper, it risks annoying fans / pro gamers if changes are too drastic.
After all, the reason why CSGo is so popular is because it’s kept the same core mechanics for a long, long time.
We’ll see improvements in animation and fewer instances of ‘randomness’. The game will feel tighter, but don’t expect drastic changes.
Will there be more stadiums added this year?
FIFA 18 featured more than 70 stadiums – including new additions such as LA Galaxy’s StubHub Center, Huddersfield Town’s John Smith’s Stadium and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Amex arena.
Recently, they even added 12 more, which arrive with the World Cup mode on May 29.
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
Sadly, though, there are still some notable omissions. No, we’re not just talking about the Camp Nou (PES has the license).
What about PES?
This year’s game will be vastly different to PES 2018, according to the series’ European Community Leader Adam Bhatti.
Since Bhatti was appointed to the role in 2013, Konami’s flagship football game has seen somewhat of a critical revival – with scores often trumping EA Sports’ FIFA.
Sadly, though, PES is still lagging some way behind EA’s in the sales department.

As a result, the Japanese publisher will be ringing in the changes to ensure PES 2019 is a real contender against FIFA 19.

What players are going to get downgrades / upgrades in their ratings?
How are ratings calculated?
Guesswork? Data collection? Statistical analysis?
Turns out it’s a mix of all three – plus one vital ingredient – Michael Mueller-Moehring.
He leads a team of 9,000 data reviewers – a network of scouts, coaches and season ticket-holders whose job it is to watch as many matches as possible.
Rather than relying on statistics, the data reviewers upload subjective feedback on every player they’ve watched – all 18,000 of them – on a secure EA Sports website.
“We have many leagues in the game; no stats provider could offer us data for all these leagues, teams and players,” Mueller-Moehring told ESPN.
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
“This is also the reason why we use this online database, because it’s not possible to buy this data some way — it just doesn’t exist.”
If stats alone were used to determine players’ FIFA ratings, it would lead to inaccurate and misleading ratings.
“The stats are, in most cases, not taking into account very specific circumstances,” Mueller-Moehring explains.
“When you look at passing completion, if you play for Bayern Munich or if you play for Manchester City or if you play for Pep Guardiola, if your system is based on possession, you will have more successful passes than other players, but this doesn’t necessarily make you a better passer.
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
“And when you look at attributes like trapping and ball control, there is data, but the data never gives you the specific situations. Same for tackling.”
Every now and then a relatively unknown player is signed for a team in the game. But with such little amounts of data around for them, how is a score worked out?
“All you know about this player is his name, date of birth and his position — and his position may be as precise as, ‘Oh, he’s a midfielder.’,”Mueller-Moehring says.
“We guess a little bit … until our people have seen the player in action.”
Capturing a player’s mental make-up is also massively important – but with no stats to show this, the league a player is in is used make an educated guess.
“If Messi were playing in the Irish league, his attributes would drop simply because he’s not on the highest level anymore,” Mueller-Moehring explains.
“We want to base our ratings on actual performance data.”When it comes to physical attributes, it’s much more subjective.
“There are fast and strong players in every professional league in the world,” Mueller-Moehring says.
All of the feedback is then collated into 300 different data fields and 35 specific attribute categories, which determines the overall rating.
How much is FIFA 19 going to cost?
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
The same as last year’s version, most likely – starting from around £49.00 for the basic version, all the way up to £79.99, which will include some packs and bonuses.
What about lootboxes – is Ultimate Team going to change this year?
Lootboxes are gambling and are therefore illegal, the Belgian Gaming Commission has ruled.
The governing body looked at Star Wars Battlefront 2, FIFA 18, Overwatch and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and found three of the titles were in violation of the country’s gambling legislation.
Star Wars was the only title that did not break the rules because EA stripped out the game’s loot boxes after its launch debacle.
FIFA 18, Overwatch and CS:GO’s loot boxes rely on chance so are subject to Belgian gambling law.
A statement from Minister of Justice Koen Geens said the games were therefore illegal and demanded loot boxes to be removed.
Failure to do could result in EA risking “a prison sentence of up to five years and a fine of up to 800,000 euros”.
So, Ultimate Team is going to get scrapped, right?
Nope. Despite Belgium and the Netherlands ruling that loot boxes in games such as FIFA Ultimate Team are equivalent to gambling and in violation of their laws, EA vowed to ‘continue pushing forward’ with the controversial service.
“We’re going to continue pushing forward [with FIFA Ultimate Team],” EA CEO Andrew Wilson said during a conference call with industry analysts.
“We’re always thinking about our players. We’re always thinking about how to deliver these types of experiences in a transparent, fun, fair, and balanced way for our players — and we’ll continue to work with regulators on that.”

Didn’t EA say they may not be releasing a physical version of the game this year?
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
In an interview with Bloomberg last year, Wilson hinted the publisher could move away from an annual release cycle and towards an update and subscriptions model.
“The greatest disruptor to the consumption of entertainment media in the last five years has been the combination of streaming plus subscription,” he said.
“It’s changed the way we watch television. It’s changed the way we listen to music. It’s changed the way I read books.
“There’s a world where it gets easier and easier to move that code around — where we may not have to do an annual release. We can really think about those games as a 365-day, live service.” Interestingly, EA looks to have already dipped its toes in the water.
Although the Madden NFL Mobile game is now three years old, it’s been continually updated at the start of every season – essentially creating a new game.
The Frostbite engine was tweaked for FIFA 18, but arguably there were only very minor adjustments in animation and visual presentation.
EA Vancouver would have to re-write the entire code altogether to see a dramatic difference – something we can’t see happening for a good few years yet.
This, coupled with a greater number of gamers favouring digital game downloads over physical copies, could sway EA into ditching boxed copies and releasing a ‘FIFA 19’ patch instead.
This would work by updating rosters, faces and form – much like the patches we’re seeing in FIFA 18’s cycle, only bigger. It could even add a third season on to The Journey.
Streaming games is fast becoming more popular.
GeForce Now – a subscription-based service on the Nvidia Shield – offers a ‘Netflix for Games’, where the unit taps into cloud processing to ‘play’ hundreds of titles.
EA Access, which also uses a subscription model, offers members a chance to trial some of the latest games – as well as play a number of older titles in EA’s portfolio.
It could only be a matter of time before we see a FIFA game using a subscription-based model, rather than a traditional release.
For now, though, we’re certain things won’t change.
Will FIFA 19 be powered by Frostbite?
Yes, without a shadow of doubt. EA actually uses Frostbite across a load of their titles – including Battlefront and Need for Speed.
FIFA 19 Standard and Champions Editions are available to pre-order from GAME and Amazon
It’s far easier to standardise the in-house engine, rather than having different development teams battle with multiple software.
Plus, as it’s in-house (developed by DICE), EA will save money in the long run – as they won’t have to buy the right to use engines from other developers.
The downside is that those expecting a huge leap in graphics will be slightly disappointed.
By staying with the engine, we can’t expect to see too much of a boost over FIFA 18 – especially as EA will want it running smoothly on standard PS4s and Xbox Ones.
PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, though, should both start pulling away from their less-powerful siblings and boast the best-looking versions of the game (Along with PC, obviously).
We have had the FIFA 19 demo, we have had all the announcements and the ratings now, all players need is the companion app to Ultimate Team.

While we’re getting the usual bout of tweaks and improvements in FIFA 19 that we’re used to, such as updated rosters, some on-the-pitch gameplay improvements, and some new features in the ever-popular Ultimate Team mode, there’s also some neat, minor additions. One of these is a new Commentary team in the form of Derek Rae and Lee Dixon, a welcome change from the long-running Martin Tyler and Alan Smith partnership. There’s only so many times we can hear Martin say the same lines over and over again! Here’s what you need to know to Change commentary team in FIFA 19.

If you’re playing in a Champions League game in Journey or Kick-Off mode, you’ll have Derek Rae and Lee Dixon as your commentators for the game. And then if you’re playing any other game at all in any of FIFA 19‘s game modes, you’ll have the standard team of Martin Tyler and Alan Smith.
While this may come as disappointing news to some, there’s always the chance that EA could patch the ability to change commentary team in the game at a later date. However, that would likely require new audio recordings that are probably unlikely before FIFA 20.
It’s highly unlikely that that’s going to change, but we can always hope. For now, if you want to Change commentators in FIFA 19, you’ll have to switch up the game modes you’re playing.

FIFA 19 title update 3 is now available on PC, with console to follow next week. Pitch Notes/patch details including gameplay fixes on: shooting, defensive pressure and goalkeepers; FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) updates, new starheads and career mode…
As many of you will know, the EA SPORTS FIFA team have come under particular scrutiny as of late. Many people within the FUT community have been rather vocal about their displeasure regarding the current state of the game, ranging from failing servers to obvious gameplay issues.
As a result of this tirade of criticism, Electronic Arts have made a point of being more transparent in their efforts to fix these problems. This information regarding the latest FIFA update patch can be found below thanks to their latest Pitch Notes article. We remind you that FIFA 19 title update 3 is already live for all PC players, and is confirmed to arrive on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 next week.
Since the release of FIFA 19 many users have complained about shooting mechanics being overpowered, particularly in the FUT Champions Weekend League. As a result of this third FIFA patch update, the effectiveness of first time finesse shots has been nerfed.
Not only this, the angle of which a player approaches a shot, in relation to the target, also has more of a bearing on accuracy. All this, as well as the effectiveness of defensive pressure in various positions has been adjusted. Full details on goalkeeper updates, FUT fixes (Division Rivals in particular) and complete list of new starheads (player faces) can be seen below…
The following changes to gameplay have been made:
- Adjustments have been made to the effectiveness of first time finesse shots - when the ball is coming from behind the shooting player, between 135 and 225 degrees. (0 degrees is the direction the player is facing).
- Shots from these positions now have a higher chance to be impacted by error. This will result in potentially less accuracy, ball speed and ball spin.
- When the incoming ball angle is 180 degrees, the most significant impact will be seen. Scaling reduced impact will be seen up to an incoming ball angle of 135 degrees and 225 degrees on either side.
- Adjustments have been made to the impact of defensive pressure on a player taking a shot:
- The impact of defensive pressure on a shooting player when it is coming from in front of the shooting player has been increased. The impact of defensive pressure on a shooting player when it is coming from behind the shooting player has been reduced.
- Reduced chance that a shot which was correctly aimed into the net, targeting a location near to the post, would miss in a shooting scenario where the attacking player is not being pressured defensively and is not off balance.
- Reduction of players getting pushed off the ball too easily when dribbling, particularly in situations where the defending player was pressuring the attacking player from the side. Attacking players will now be marginally more effective at holding defending players off.
- This change will be scaled based on the strength stat of the attacking player, with stronger players noticing the most significant results from this change.
- Adjustments have been made to the speed by which an attacking player, who has just lost possession to a successful tackle, is able to recover the ball.
- A minor reduction has been made to the acceleration of a player directly after using the Open Up Fake Shot skill move.
- Online matches will now display the Timed Finishing indicators of your opponent.
- This will only appear for Very Early (red), Early (yellow) or Great (green) shots. Late (gray) shots will not be visible, including any shot where the player didn't use a Timed Finish.
The following issues with gameplay have been addressed:
- Low driven shots will no longer result in a chip shot.
- Players in better positions will now win headers more frequently, other players will no longer warp in front of them.
- In aerial situations the issue of late player switching, or players unable to switch at all, has been addressed.
- A first time thigh trap was resulting in the player receiving the ball slowing down too much, directly after making the trap.
- Goalkeepers were occasionally kicking the ball forward instead of correctly picking it up.
- Rarely, keepers were not diving to intercept the ball after a cross ended up close to them.
- Keepers were sometimes unresponsive to a penalty kick shot directly at them or very close to them.
- Keepers were occasionally kicking a powered up first time lob pass too soft and low, resulting in a loss of possession.
- Penalty takers are now no longer able to play the ball directly after hitting the post or bar (without the keeper touching it) in a penalty kick situation during a match.
- User controlled players are no longer able to push the keeper out of the way during a free kick.
- Keepers are no longer as easy to move. Keepers will now attempt to return to their original position after being moved. Offsides will now be called if an attacking player is interfering with the keeper during a free kick, if they are in an offside position. Defenders will no longer cause interference to keepers by following their mark into the goal.
- Balls heading towards an open net will no longer be attacked an offside player, providing the attacking user presses the Cancel controls.
Paul Pogba will now perform the correct run up animation when taking long free kicks.
FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT)
The following changes to FUT have been made:
- We have made changes to the Division Rivals pre-match flow in an effort to reduce the difficulty of some players finding a match.
- Your team will now always be displayed on the left side, and your opponent will always be displayed on the right side, regardless of which team is Home or Away, on the following screens:
- Team Select screen. Kit Select screen. Match Preview screen.
On the Kit Select screen, both teams will now default to the kit assigned as their Home Kit. When on the Team Management screen, your team's crest will be displayed on the right side of the screen.
- The following changes have been made to Roles section of Dynamic Tactics within FUT:
- When using the Auto-Assign Player Roles button, the impact of chemistry on a player's attributes will now be taken into consideration when assigning players. When attributes are being displayed on this screen, the impact of chemistry on those attributes will also be shown when viewing this screen in the FUT Squad screen.
- We have hidden the attributes being displayed on this screen when it is accessed during the pre-match flow in all FUT modes due to an issue that we are working to resolve in a future title update when available. When viewing this screen in the Team Management screen via the Pause Menu in a FUT Offline Mode, such as FUT Squad Battles, the attributes will still be showing their values without the impact of chemistry, something we are working to resolve in a future title update when available.
The following issues with FUT have been addressed:
- Stability issue in FUT Friendly Seasons if your opponent backs out of the pre-match flow while on the Kit Select screen. Stability issue after watching a FUT Champions Channel replay. When swapping your FUT Squad Manager, the contract percentage bonus provided by the new manager was not applying until the player logged out and logged back into the FUT Servers. The Match Earnings leaderboard sometimes was displaying the incorrect value for some players. One of the Starter Objectives referenced a feature not present in FIFA 19. Stability issue if a player exited and entered the same screen repeatedly.
Career Mode
The following changes to career mode have been made:
- When managing a club within the Hyundai A-League, you will no longer be automatically fired after completing your first match. Selling a player assigned as a Quick Sub was causing the following problems:
- When using the in-game Team Sheet, players were unable to leave the Team Management screen. Visual issues on the associated Team Sheet when viewed in the Squad Hub.
Visual / Presentation
The following visual / presentation changes have been made:
- Added the assets for 50 new player and manager starheads.
- Server side changes are required before these starheads will be available for use in game - we'll update you via Twitter when these become available.
- Updates to a number of team kits and crests.
The following visual / presentation issues have been addressed:
- The Cockerel displayed in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is now correctly looking to the east.
- Sometimes, player models were appearing in the background after exiting a match.
- Sometimes, a white box would appear in the background after exiting a match.
*Note – The following issue has been identified with this patch, we are working to resolve in a future title update when and if available.
- During a match, when bringing up the ‘Select Kick Taker’ overlay during a Set Piece situation, it is possible for the attributes of a player to be displayed as over 99.
- This issue is visual only, the maximum attribute value in terms of gameplay impact is 99. This issue can occur in all non-FUT modes within FIFA 19. This issue would only occur if the player was receiving a form boost that would cause the impacted attribute to exceed 99.
