So after flickering between formations for a long long time I've finally decided without hesitation that this is the best formation in the game. I'll list my custom tactics and player instructions below but first I'll back up what I'm saying.
The advantage to this is similar to the 4231 you have a balanced formation that can both defend and attack. However unlike the 4231 I feel that having 2 strikers up top allows for the 1'2's you see so commonly in the 41212(2). For me at least it also brings the wide CAMs more into play, they seem to bring themselves in more and occupy the gap behind the strikers more so than I've found with the 4231.
It can also be used to counter attack if used correctly. The wide CAMs will spread your opponents defence during the counter and having the 2 strikers up top will find acres of space. More often than not the wide CAMs will bring out one of his defenders leaving gaps. It's the best formation in the game for creating space unquestionably. Something that the 41212(2) severely lacks. I find it so frustrating having my opponents just holding contain and it leaves me with very little options in the attack. With the 4222 you have so many options there is always a player to pass to even when playing PTB.
Prior to using the 4222. I used both the 4231 and the 41212(2) and placed consistently silver in the WL. Since switching to the 4222 I haven't placed out of gold and reached gold 2.
- What sort of players do you need?
ST's - One counter attacking player H/M is a must and high pace is also a must. The other can be a little more flexible, ideally a player with some good passing stats. Arnautovic and Mbappe are good example of either striker.
Wide CAMs - This is a must, I'd suggest finding the highest aggression players you can find with H/M workrates if possible. High stamina is also ideal. If this requires changing formations in game so be it it's worth it. Having good curve is also ideal you will get so many oppurnities for finesse shots with the CAMs. IF Alessandrini, Sanchez, IF Promes, IF Lozano and Mertens would be good examples.
CDM's - One defending midfielder, One box to box midfielder that can also pass and shoot. Fabinho, Bakayoko, IF Allan are typical examples. Box to box Vidal, Nainggolan, Alli, Herrera would be useful.
Fullbacks - Leave them balanced, high pace ideal. Obvious examples don't need mentioning.
CBs - Pace isn't an absolute must due to the 2 CDMs. I tend to look for high aggression and good reactions. Sokratis and Manolas is a great partnership.
ST - Get in behind, Press back line on one. False 9 on the big guy with press back line.
CAMs - Stay forward, get into box, free roam
CDMs - One stay back. One balanced. One on stay back if you're playing a team with more than one CAM or 4321 cut passing lanes. If it's 1 cam (41212) man mark. Balanced CDM on cut passing lanes.
Full backs - Leave on balanced.

I prefer to go direct so the crossing slider you can change according to your gameplay. Putting the slider low and increasing shooting puts my CAMs at the edge of the box more frequently which is where I want them to be.
I've seen a fair few posts questioning the 4222 now so I thought I'd release a guide. I did a similar one for the 3421 on '17 and it had some good responses so I hope for those of you that try this formation it gives you as much success as it has done for me. I can virtually play no other formation anymore as they feel just boring, lack of options etc. With this you get the best of both worlds. Solid defending. On the counter 2 men up front 2 wide supports and a central box to box midfielder coming up from deep. Best of luck!

If used correctly and taken full advantage of you will be able to zip the ball between the 3 close CM’s and unless the opposition has the exact same formation, they’re going to see plenty of the ball. The ST is vital and he needs to be big and strong.

This formation has so many people spread across the midfield that it becomes tedious to track down the ball. It can beat you in a few ways: the 3 CM can pass well to the striker, out wide or among themselves; the LM and RM drop to support the midfield but are itching to push the ball wing, or you tend to forget that there is a striker up top. He only links up for the final touches or shot at goal. This can easily become a possession-based game. There’s not much you can do about that. You should focus on the 3 CM and let your LB and RB worry about the LM and RM. This formation is really flat, so have players that can score up top. You may only get a few good chances.

In this formation, you will have 5 defenders including 3 central defenders (CB) one of them is a sweeper and 2 wide full-backs acting as wing-backs, who will be helping the midfielders and strikers on attacks -, especially on counter attacks. The wing backs will be required to get up each flank in order to support attacks and also fulfil their defensive responsibilities. Much of the play will go through the middle and the CAM will have to pull the strings and be a creative spark. This is a very solid formation defensively, as long as the LWB and RWB fill in when they can.

With a strong backline of defenders, and two well-rounded center midfielders, you will invite a lot of pressure from your opponent; however, with the back 5, it won’t be an issue. Even if you suck at defending on FIFA, having five bodies, six if you include the keeper, defender becomes easy enough. To counter this formation, just put many players in the midfield.

The style of play with this shape is perhaps narrower than usual, but with hard-working wing backs, it doesn’t have to be. There is a slight separation between the midfield and defence which can be exploited at times, however, when in possession it can be difficult for opponents to defend against. Slick passing and good movement are required when going forward with the ball, but accurate long balls will work if you have a set of strikes who are decent in the air. This system is reliant on the wing-backs providing width for the team. The two wide full-backs act as wing-backs. It is their job to work their flank along the full length of the pitch, supporting both the defence and the attack.

A very rigid set-up allows for patient build-up in terms of passing with focus through the CM positions.

The CB’s are the spine and core of the team. At least two of the centre-backs need to be comfortable in possession of the ball to start your attacks as well as being tall, strong, athletic and quick. There are only a handful of players who fit this criterion so if using the 5-3-2 makes sure you select your CB’s carefully and build the team around them.

This formation is very solid and well built. It’s not easy to counter if no one is pushed up. Nice build-up play and smooth, but precise passes will find you into his box.

Firstly, I'm not an expert at the game. I've never finished top 100 (best is Elite 2); in fact I've never been in division 1 this year, but I've been using this formation now for a good while to some decent success in division 2 – and I've made some adjustments post patch that I think are working very well. I finished 26/4 this week. I was 21/0 at one stage, until either I bottled it, or I just met players better than me. Probably a mixture of both.
Also, excuse the formatting. I only know how to do basic formatting in Reddit. Hopefully it's easy enough to read.

- Supposed gap in the middle (I don't feel this; others have?) Team needs to be built somewhat specifically for it Errr…. can't think of any more really
I play a fast build-up, counter attacking style that smothers my opponents in both offence and defence. I do not play drop back/long ball to facilitate this. If you play a similar style to mine (or would like to try to), I suggest giving my custom tactics a try. Keep in mind, I have a very, very strong team so I can get away with what I'm about to suggest. It may/may not work with your team.
Defensive Style: Press after possession loss
Offensive Style: Fast Build up
I do not like letting my opponent have the ball. The longer he has the ball, the more bull-shit can go his way. So I play press after possession loss with a medium/high defensive line to try to retrieve it as soon as possible. This also punishes weaker players and induces some rage quits if you score early, as they just feel severely outclassed.
I play fast build up as I feel that a lot of my opponents are sitting super deep with drop back/low depth, so I want to attack them as quickly as I can before their defensive line and shape is set. Once it's set, it can be a bit of a fucker to break down.
These tactics are a little aggressive and gung-ho, yes, I agree. STA on your players can become an issue later into the game, (hence why I made the comment earlier about it working with a very good team), but the aim with these tactics is to punish them early before this can occur. Aggressive play can often be too much for a lot of the players you face to handle.
I put players in the box to 5, as I feel this brings my CAM's into play a lot more around/inside the box; especially if my opponents is playing very deep. It just allows me more options and helps me take advantage of bull shit goals like deflections and rebounds. Hey, I hate these goals too, but it's FIFA – they aren't going away. May as well take advantage of them when they do occur.
Free kicks is at 1. You don't need your players pushed forward unnecessarily. People just fucking love this drop back/counter garbage – this helps you counter it a tiny bit.
PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS
Strikers: Get in Behind, everything else Balanced
You want your strikers running in behind your opponents, as this can create space as it drags his defenders to track the runs or even present you with a through ball opportunity.
I leave the rest on Balanced rather than Stay Forward. This is critical as we don't have a central CAM. We need them to tuck back towards the midfield a little while we are defending, to try and plug the hole in the middle and sit where the CCAM would typically be.
I see no need to change these. Definitely do not play them on Stay Forward, as you're more or less playing 424 then. You will be limited in options when trying to transition from defence to offence.
I've tinkered with Get in the Box for crosses, but I have tall strikers who are extremely good in the air. I did not want my smaller CAM being on the end of crosses. So this is a nicht-nicht. (Bruno reference).
CDM's: Your most defensive CDM on Stay back while attacking, and the better attacking CDM as Balanced. Both on Cover Centre.
- You want one of them pretty much shielding the back 4, and the other one stepping forward slightly to allow link up play with the CAM's. Don't worry, he still won't be charging into the box. He just allows a passing option to your CAM. Work rates are critical here. Both of mine are med/high, which is perfect for me. But your Balanced CDM on High/High would also be very good.
Defenders: LB/RB Stay back while attacking and Overlap. CB, all Default.
- I leave my full backs on stay back while attacking, but if I am chasing the game, I'll often switch D-Pad tactics to Attacking Full-backs. There's no need to have them on Balanced in custom tactics. Leaving them on Stay back while attacking also gives you the option with D-Pad. I put them on Overlap so that if I am pushing them forward with D-Pad, they are prov >
GENERAL TEAM SET-UP
You want one big bastard (Ibrahimovic, Arnautovic, those kind of players), and another speedy one. This works well as the big bastard can compete in the air for crosses, while the smaller, speedy one, can get in behind for through balls. This provides you with multiple attacking options, which are necessary right now in this current META. (There goes that fucking word again).
I use wingers for this role, as they fit it perfectly. In 4222 your wide CAM play more like inside forwards/wingers. Pace is necessary here, as is good crossing and long shot capabilities. I play them inverted (left foot on right side, right foot on left side), as even though timed finesse is pretty much useless now, you still get into regular finesse shot positions with them. I try to keep at least a 4 star weak foot as when crossing it's very handy to have. I wouldn't use anything less than 4 star skillers also for this role, as you will find yourself cutting in from the wing a fair amount, and skills are your friend here.
I have one tank (Fabinho, Casemiro, Ballack etc), and one hound. (Kante, Nainggolan etc.)
I have the tank on stay back instructions, and leave the hound on balanced. The hound also helps link up the CAM in the middle of the pitch, and due to his pace, he's also able to get back defensively. Kante is ideal for this role. Like I said earlier: Tank is Med/High, and Hound can be High/High or Med/High.
Best that you can afford/link up.

While it’s not as overpowered as it has been in recent instalments, pace is still important in FIFA 19. Whether you’re chasing an attacker or a through ball, having the fastest players in your team can make all the difference. When assessing players, Sprint Speed and Acceleration are given a lot of weight, nobody seems to favour slow players. 93 sprint speed and 91 acceleration. The Shakhtar striker also has 78 potential.
79 rated currently, could grow to 82. An effective right winger with 93 sprint speed and 91 acceleration.
No real growth potential here but matches the previous entrants’ 93 sprint speed and beats them with 92 acceleration.

Thankfully not everyone on our list of fastest players in FIFA 19 is a winger. The Newcastle right back has pace to burn with both stats ranked at 93. His 81 potential means that he still has room for improvement though.
Two full backs in a row, also with 93 for both stats. Alba is older than Yedlin so probably won’t grow any more but is already an exceptional defender.

His age and 87 potential make him an interesting option for left midfield. 93 sprint speed and 95 acceleration is more than enough to beat most right backs.
Another left midfielder, but the American is 69 rated and has 76 potential so might be more appropriate if you’re playing in a lower league. He also has 93 sprint speed but his 96 acceleration beats Coman’s.
Unlikely to grow any more but shouldn’t start to decline for a few seasons. The skilful Juventus winger has the joint-best acceleration in the game at 97, but his 93 sprint speed means he finishes outside the top half.
Not the best acceleration at 85, but his 94 sprint speed lands him spot #25. Considering he is only 70 overall, those stats could improve by the time the right midfielder hits his 81 potential.
Despite his 94 sprint speed, 87 acceleration means he is more effective over longer distances. A 67 rated right midfielder who has 72 potential.
An interesting striking option. 94 sprint speed and 89 acceleration is phenomenal for a 69 rated player. Even better is the fact he can reach 81 overall in the right conditions.
Another striker, but not quite as highly rated – 66 overall with 73 potential. Can match Oberlin’s 94 sprint speed but his 90 acceleration is superior.
74 rated striker that can grow a little and hit his 77 potential. 94 sprint speed and 91 acceleration is seriously impressive.
No real growth potential but if you’re looking for a striker around the 70 mark, you’ll have a hard time beating 94 sprint speed and 92 acceleration.
Also has 94 sprint speed and 92 acceleration, making him one of the quickest full backs in the game. The West Ham man can hit 76 overall but starts out at 73.
If you need a reliable and pacey striker, Acheampong may be your man. 94 sprint speed and 92 acceleration is very good for a 75 rated player. His 80 potential means he could get even better.
Another striker with 94 sprint speed and 92 acceleration. His 81 rating and 87 potential means he is more suited to a Champions League level club.
Another player with 94 sprint speed, 92 acceleration but the Real Madrid youngster is a left winger. His 77 rating is decent enough but they splashed the cash because of his 92 potential.
Considering this striker is only 61 overall and is only likely to hit 64 at his peak, 94 sprint speed and 93 acceleration is exceptional.
Pace stats at 94 and 93 are useful in a right midfielder. Kiwomya is rated 62 overall but has a potential of 74, making it likely that a team outside of League One snaps him up.
Another right midfielder with 94 sprint speed and 93 acceleration. Bifouma is a more readymade option starting out at 75 overall.
An incredibly pacey left midfielder, considering his overall rating is only 68. The Argentinian has 94 for both sprint speed and acceleration.
Barkhuizen also has 94 for both pace attributes. However, he plays on the right, is rated 71 overall and can reach 74.
Plays on the left but makes the top 10 paciest players in FIFA 19 because of his 74 potential and 67 starting rating. 94 acceleration and 94 sprint speed makes him worthy of the #10 spot.
Unlikely to grow further than his 74 rating. 94 sprint speed and 95 acceleration makes him the fastest right back in FIFA 19.
A solid right midfield choice at 76 overall but 81 potential. The first player on this list to have 95 sprint speed, he also has a very respectable 91 acceleration.
The fastest striker in FIFA 19, if you’re going by their primary positions. His 88 rating means he’s already one of the best attackers in the game, but 95 sprint speed and 93 acceleration is incredible.
The 75 rated right midfielder isn’t a high growth player, but 95 sprint speed and 94 acceleration means he steals the #5 spot from Aubameyang.
Can match Damm’s 95 sprint speed and 94 acceleration, but his 88 overall rating means he has a lot more ability in other areas.
Number three on our list has 96 sprint speed and 93 acceleration. The Manchester City and Germany international is already rated 86 overall but has a mouthwatering potential of 93.
Whether you play him on the wing or as a striker, Kylian Mbappe is a revelation. A 96 rating for both sprint speed and acceleration is a worry for opposition defences. Don’t forget that although he’s already earned a 87 rating, he has the potential to hit 95 one day.
The fastest player in FIFA 19 career mode is Adam Traore. Although Douglas Costa can match his 97 acceleration, only two others equal his 96 sprint speed. The 75 rated right winger is currently at Wolves, but his 86 potential means he’s bound to find his way to a bigger club eventually.

FIFA 18 fans were disappointed when dynamic weather didn’t arrive this year.
It’s something the Frostbite Engine specialises in – and has been put to good use in other EA titles such Battlefield 1 and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
While nothing has been confirmed, the introduction of realistic weather could well be a part of FIFA 19.
Speaking to Metro, EA DICE’s Patrick Bach explained why weather is so much more than just a “pretty effect”.
“We often talk about these different dimensions in Battlefield, where you have the rock, paper, scissors and then you marry that with the destruction and you create unpredictability from different angles. And with the layer of weather we actually change the way you play in a very drastic way,” he said.
“So, if you have the tactics of being a sniper and it starts to rain then you probably have to change tactics. And the same with fighter planes, once the fog rolls in it’s like, ‘Okay, this is not as effective anymore, so I probably need to go back on the ground’.
“It’s not only a pretty effect, it actually changes the way you play the game.”
Dynamic weather has featured in Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer games for the last couple of years and drastically changes the way the game is played.
During matches, rain will sometimes fall – making it easier for players to slip and make mistakes.
If executed like this in FIFA, it would add a whole new layer of tactics to gameplay – especially in Ultimate Team.
For example, weather taking a turn for the worse could negatively affect player ground speed, passing accuracy and injury probability – giving Quicm Subs more of a purpose.
Players would fall over more easily, goalkeepers could be more likely to fumble fast shots… the list is endless, and would all help add an extra level of realism to the game.

Действительно, футсим от EA Sports за последний год продался тиражом более 24 миллионов копий, ближайший конкурент от Konami с трудом взял рубеж в один миллион. И учитывая, какой получиась PES 2019, слабо верится, что господство «элетроников» будет потревожено. Однако с трона всегда можно свалиться даже без чужой помощи, если допустить несколько критических ошибок. Вот их сейчас и будем выискивать.
Начнём с самого главного — с футбола. Здесь те, кто видел три последние серии «ФИФЫ», совершенно не удивятся, ведь основы остались примерно теми же, что закладывались осенью 2015-го и потом были перенесены на Frostbite, где работают до сих пор. Нас ждёт довольно вязкий в середине поля, но одновременно с этим атакующий футбол, где надо хорошо уметь защищаться, чтобы не пропустить три-четыре гола. Это очень приятный баланс, игра не скатывается в чистую «аркадность», но и не становится симулятором до мозга костей.
По-прежнему финты, ложные замахи и тому подобные хитрости решают слишком много, поэтому дриблеры в атакующей группе здесь очень нужны. Теперь логика первого касания заметно переработана, правым стиком можно выделывать различные подбросы и обработки (даже грудью!), от этого очень сильно зависит отскок мяча. Одновременно с этим выросла роль разрезающих пасов, а вот банальные забросы вперёд стали работать чуть хуже. Играть головой стало чуть приятнее, забивать — легче, даже если у вас не Питер Крауч на острие, главнее стал выбор позиции и борьба за неё.
А вот удары ногами переработаны полностью, но опционально. Если нажать «круг» (в стандартной раскладке) второй раз, появится специальная шкала с меткой, движущейся из красной зоны в зелёную. Если ваша реакция достаточно хороша, то повторное нажатие вовремя позволит лупануть в угол так, что вратарь вытащить не сможет. Система требует тренировки, освоить её непросто, поэтому при желании можно не пользоваться. Но именно с системой Timed Finishing можно забивать потрясающие «банки» издали, по-другому заколотить с 35 метров будет сложно.
Голы тут на удивление разнообразные, вратари могут как невероятно выручить, так и пропустить дикую «пенку».
Но в целом, какой способ бить ни выбирай, футбол в FIFA 19 оставляет приятное, пусть и не совсем свежее, впечатление. Даже фанат PES со стажем будет чувствовать себя вполне в норме, по крайней мере, неожиданные пасы-обрезы и отскоки, приводящие к голам, случаются тут довольно часто.
Ещё одна вещь, которая порадует привыкших к футсиму от Konami, — расширенные возможности для тактики. И это очень крутая, пусть и полностью скопированная у PES, особенность. Настраивается абсолютно всё — широта расположения защиты, поведение при потере мяча, степень прессинга на чужой половине и даже количество игроков на угловых. Более того, для каждого из четырёх типов атакующей стратегии можно выбрать свою тактику. Забили «Барселоне» два в первые полчаса и хотите «засушить» матч? Пожалуйста, ставим для сверхзащитной стратегии какую-нибудь 4-2-3-1 и врубаем прессинг. А если надо смять соперника в конце — просто перед матчем ставим для сверхатакующей стратегии 4-2-4 и подключаем на стандарты ещё и пару защитников.
Не то чтобы это всё было обязательно для побед над компьютером, но в матчах с человеком будет очень полезно. Тем более что вариантов для соревнования с живыми оппонентами стало больше. Главное из нововведений опять же знакомо любителям PES — это еврокубки. Лига Чемпионов, Лига Европы, Суперкубок УЕФА получили свои полноценные воплощения, у главного турнира даже есть отдельный режим для максимальной аутентичности. Так как у Electronic Arts нет трудностей с лицензиями, групповой этап ЛЧ в FIFA 19 точно такой же, как в жизни. Все три наших участника — «Локо», армейцы и «Спартак» — на месте, их составы повторяют реальные, хотя рейтинг некоторых игроков вызывает вопросы.
Например, у Фёдора Чалова, главного молодого таланта среди русских нападающих, жалкие 71 — в PES столько же у Ивана Новосельцева, который давно не вызывается в сборную.
А вот с внешностью, особенно у звёзд, проблем нет. Топовые футбольные мастера выглядят и двигаются именно так, как и должны, здесь мой личный фаворит — быстрейший игрок мира Гарет Бэйл с его фирменным стилем движения. Лицензионных стадионов стало даже больше — добавились целых 16 арен из «Ла Лиги», арена «Боруссии Дортмунд», кардиффский «Миллениум» и ещё кучка построек. А вот с чемпионатами есть значимая для нас проблема — Российская Премьер-Лига стала эксклюзивом конкурентов, и карточек русских футболистов теперь станет гораздо меньше, тем более что «Зенит» для Лиги Европы лицензировать не удалось. Как по мне, это весомая потеря, но полностью лицензированные «Ла Лига» или Английская Премьер-лига её сильно скрашивают.
Именно в этих двух турнирах предстоит выступать в режиме «История». Значит ли это, что Алекс Хантер начнёт менять клубы, прямо как Златан? Вовсе нет. Просто в сюжетном режиме FIFA 19 у нас три полноценных героя. И это лучшее, что случалось с приключениями темнокожей суперзвезды. Логично, что напарниками топ-форварда стали его друг Дэнни Уильямс и сестра Ким. Ими можно было управлять и в прошлом году, но там это было опционально и совсем немного, а тут — обязательно и времени уделено примерно наравне с Алексом. Сам сюжет не избавился от натянутости и несколько нелепых попыток показать изнанку жизни футболистов-профи, но за счёт тасовки героев вышел самым бодрым и достойно завершил трилогию.

В режиме FIFA Ultimate Team, самом популярном и в рекламе не нуждающемся, настоящих изменений тоже немного. Появились карточки героев Лиги Чемпионов, добавился режим Division Rivals, где вас «мэтчат» с соперниками примерно того же уровня и даже соседнего региона. Упростили «Лигу выходного дня», снизив количество матчей в ней до 30. Всё это сделало путь к высшим дивизионам чуть проще, но от необходимости либо «гриндить», либо платить до конца не избавило. Впрочем, чтобы стать киберспортсменом, надо вкладывать много времени.
Маловато перемен и в «Карьере». Тут вообще кажется, что на принципиальные улучшения решили забить — кроме косметических правок, позволяющих проще отслеживать необходимых футболистов, в режиме за менеджера отличий от прошлого сезона не обнаружить. Ну да, есть дополнительные детали «для погружения», типа изменения интерфейса в дни той же Лиги Чемпионов, но фанатам давно хочется большей вариативности — чтобы начинать с клубов низшей лиги и пробиваться наверх, например. Даже пара комментаторов будто устала и решила ничего особо не менять (кроме фраз про сами понимаете какой турнир) — хотя Черданцев и Генич озвучивают уже четвёртую серию симулятора, их реплики по-прежнему звучат оторванно от контекста. Хотя под гимн сами понимаете какого турнира они зачитывают неплохо — даже веришь, что это трансляция.
Фанаты на трибунах получили больше анимаций, на стадионах появились огромные баннеры, но для полного реализма этого пока не хватает.
FIFA уверенно остаётся лидером среди футсимов. Игровой процесс, презентация, вариативность, возможности для совместного развлечения с людьми, база лицензий — всё у EA Sports как минимум на очень хорошем уровне. Но в сезоне 2018—19 это лидерство напоминает то, что происходило со «Спартаком» на рубеже веков: развития почти нет, а в некоторых моментах начинаются заимствования и даже самолюбование. Как помните, 2000-е резко изменили соотношение сил в российском футболе — свежими лидерами стали «Локомотив», ЦСКА и «Зенит». И если главный симулятор «ногомяча» не начнёт делать ощутимые шаги вперёд, его может ждать аналогичная участь.
Плюсы: очень приличный футбол, балансирующий между симулятором и аркадой; интересно переработана система ударов; много дополнений в тактике; ещё больше лицензированных клубов, стадионов, лиг и реалистичных спортсменов; Лига Чемпионов.
Минусы: в целом маловато изменений, особенно в режимах «Карьера», FUT и геймплее вообще; нет российской лиги и всех наших участников еврокубков.
